Welcome to 2026—with a lot happening at the RANZCO Eye Museum.
| |
This year we are delighted to expand how we share the stories, people and artefacts that shape our ophthalmic heritage.
The RANZCO Eye Museum is going social and is now on Instagram. Follow us at @ranzcoeyemuseum and watch for weekly content beginning March 2026. We look forward to sharing highlights from the collection, historical insights, featured objects and behind-the-scenes glimpses of the Museum.
| |
One of the presentations we will be featuring explores the fascinating history of Kohl pigment as both a cosmetic and a remedy for lid and eye disease — an example drawn from the 2025 historic posters exhibited at the Melbourne Congress.

Our website continues to grow. Maintenance and improvements are ongoing to provide better content, functionality and navigation, helping you more easily explore your ophthalmic heritage. We always appreciate feedback about the Museum webpage and welcome your suggestions.
| |
A special highlight this year is the forthcoming addition of Prof Ian McAllister’s collecting biography to the About page on the website. Ian has been an avid collector of ophthalmic artefacts for over 30 years and is part way through donating his huge and unique collection to the Museum. Selected items from his donation can already be viewed in the virtual EZHIBBIT galleries accessed from the home page, with more detailed descriptions available through the search function.

If you have suggestions for content for our next e-news in June, please send them to museum@ranzco.edu.
Friends of the Museum will be published four times a year: February, June, October and December.
We look forward to sharing more stories with you throughout 2026.
